Hopkinton Today: Wednesday, April 13

by | Apr 13, 2022 |

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo and video of the day.

Annual Town Meeting will be held at the Hopkinton High School Athletic Center, the Select Board decided at Tuesday’s meeting, following a recommendation from the Health Department. The board also conditionally approved the hiring of two police officers pending their graduation from the Police Academy.

At its meeting Monday night, the Parks & Recreation Commission discussed updates on the Fruit Street fields replacement project, property requests and summer programming.

Leading off the Hopkinton High School sports roundup, Kate Powers and Sean Golembiewski started their outdoor track and field seasons with a bang, setting records in a dual meet on Monday against visiting Norwood. Also, the HHS baseball team will play a game at Fenway Park on April 29.

“I’m obsessed with the marathon,” Katharine Brummett gushes. “I love it.” Brummett, a media arts teacher at Hopkinton Middle School for the past 11 years, will be running the Boston Marathon this year on behalf of the Hopkinton Music Association.

Sarah Comeau might be new to the Boston Marathon, but she’s no stranger to hitting the pavement. The former college sprinter will toe the line on April 18, raising funds for the Hopkinton Lions Club in the process.

Hopkinton’s Bob Levenson has been volunteering for the Boston Marathon since 2003. “And I still have the jacket to prove it,” he said. He’s amassed many colorful jackets since and has worn many volunteer hats as a member of the Hopkinton Marathon Committee, coordinating parking, organizing VIP hospitality and currently serving as team captain for the start marshals.

Town meetings today include the Upper Charles Trail Committee (11 a.m.), Upper Charles Trail project public workshop (5 p.m.), Elementary School Building Committee (5 p.m.), Marathon Committee (5:30 p.m.), Appropriation Committee public hearing (6 p.m.), Housing Authority (6 p.m.), Sustainable Green Committee (6 p.m.) and Board of Appeals (7 p.m.)
