Shout-out to the Hopkinton Fire Department!

Smoke detector inspections are typically one of the last hurdles required before closing the sale of a house. My clients replaced the smoke detectors in their home in advance of the inspection with the wrong type of smoke detectors — not once, but twice. Each time Fire Prevention Officer Tom Poirier came out to inspect he was professional, courteous and took the time to explain why the smokes were not passing inspection. Tom knew we were up against a deadline, and what was exceptional was that he not only returned a phone call to me after 8 p.m., but he made it clear he would fit us in for the final re-inspection, which enabled us to close the sale on time. Officer Poirier was professional and courteous and represented the Hopkinton FD in the best possible way.

Lesson learned: Visit the Fire Department website and read the guide to selling residences before buying and installing new smoke detectors.
