Main Street Corridor Project update: Full-depth excavation starts Monday; detours all week

by | May 7, 2023 | Business, News

As part of the Main Street Corridor Project this week, the town announced that Phase 3 of full-depth excavation from Muffin House Cafe to the east end of the project begins Monday and is expected to take three weeks to complete. To expedite this work, public safety has approved a workday of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday through Saturday until the fell-depth excavation work is completed.

The eastbound detour from Grove Street to Maple Street to Hayden Rowe Street will be used from Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Additional detours may be used as needed. School buses and emergency vehicles will be allowed through the detour. Two-way traffic on Walcott Street will be allowed when the detour is in place. Message boards will be set up to provide detour information.

On the east side of the project, workers will pull and plate existing castings, continue the removal of existing sidewalks and curbing, remove temporary sod that was placed at the Town Common for the Boston Marathon, reshape the road at Marathon Way, and mill and start full-depth excavation from Muffin House Cafe to the east end of the project (Ray Street).

On the west side of the project, workers will grade, form and pour concrete sidewalks.

This schedule may change due to weather and existing conditions found while performing the planned tasks. For the most up-to-date information, visit the town’s project website at hopkintonmainstreet.com.
