Main Street Corridor Project update: Paving for Boston Marathon expected to start week of April 3

by | Mar 18, 2023 | Business, News

The town announced Friday that paving in preparation for the Boston Marathon is anticipated to start the week of April 3.

The work is expected to take one day for milling, followed by one day of paving. Temporary markings will be done at night after the paving is completed. Detail officers will manage traffic control. Detours or alternating traffic may be used.

Any remaining equipment at Marathon Way will be moved before the Boston Marathon on April 17.

The Main Street Corridor Project contractor will commence with full operations after the Boston Marathon. Initial work is anticipated to be the installation of underground conduit for street lighting and traffic signals. Bike lane/sidewalk work on the west side of the project is targeted to begin in May. Full-depth excavation/reconstruction from east of the Route 135/Route 85 intersection to the east of Ash Street tentatively is scheduled to start sometime after the marathon. Resetting curb/bike lane/sidewalk work on the east side of the project will follow the full-depth reconstruction.

This schedule may change due to weather and existing conditions found while performing the planned tasks. For the most up-to-date information, visit the town’s project website at hopkintonmainstreet.com.
