Viola I. MacKenzie, 92, of Hopkinton passed away peacefully on Dec. 31. Born Dec. 4, 1929, in Lowell, Vermont, she was the daughter of the late John and Goldie (Sheltra) Verge. She was the wife of the late Daniel J. MacKenzie Jr.

Viola was a resident of Hopkinton for over 70 years. She worked at a variety of jobs over the years, and after retirement she volunteered at the Hopkinton Senior Center. She was a former Girl Scout leader and enjoyed square dancing, knitting, crocheting, painting, crafts, gardening, cooking and cake decorating, and she was a master seamstress.

Viola is survived by three children, Susan J. MacKenzie and husband Frederick Villar of Hopkinton, Lynda L. Rogers and husband Stephen L. Rogers of Keene, New Hampshire, and Daniel J. MacKenzie of Indiana. She also leaves behind her brother, Isadore Verge of Florida,  three grandchildren, one great-grandchild,  many nieces and nephews and her best friends, Charlotte Carboni of Holliston, Bea McMullen of Hopkinton, Jeanne Taylor of Hopkinton and George Robinson of Hopkinton. She is predeceased by sons William R. Mackenzie and Gordon C. MacKenzie, brothers Clement and Gordon Verge, and sister Antoinette Taylor.

In keeping with Viola’s wishes, the family will hold a private service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Viola’s name may be made to your favorite charity. Arrangements are under the care of the Chesmore Funeral Home of Hopkinton.
