I was surprised and disappointed to see a letter printed recently from a resident telling the public to “be careful with pit bulls.” These are wonderful dogs that make great family pets with the right care and training. An owner surrender to a shelter can mean lots of things — financial issues, change in living situation or allergies, just to name a few. Many media outlets profit by creating a sense of fear to increase viewership, and pit bulls have become victims of their tactics. Furthermore, having volunteered for Baypath [Humane Society], I’m proud to also note that they work extremely hard to assess the dogs that come under their care to ensure that they are placed in appropriate homes. I’d encourage you to not print such misinformed information in the future.
