2020 Census: Hopkinton 14th-wealthiest town in state

According to recently released 2020 U.S. Census information (as presented by The Boston Globe), Hopkinton ranked as the 14th-wealthiest town in Massachusetts, with a median household income of $172,683.

Dover sat at No. 1, at more than $250,000, followed by Sherborn ($216,406), Wellesley ($213,684) and Weston ($206,250). The lowest median income belonged to Springfield at $41,571.

Hopkinton’s median income represented a 43.6 percent jump from the 2010 census, when it was $120,240, ranking 19th highest in Massachusetts. Statewide, 36 other towns had a bigger percentage jump in earnings, led by Monterey at a whopping 163.1 percent ($41,625 to $109,531).

While 43.4 percent of Hopkinton’s 6,468 households earned more than $200,000, only 11 percent took in less than $50,000.

The state’s median income was $84,385, ranking fourth in the United States behind the District of Columbia ($90,842), Maryland ($87,063) and New Jersey ($85,245).

The average home price in Hopkinton was $608,600, up 12 percent from 2010.
