Hopkinton Today: Monday, July 18

by | Jul 18, 2022 | Featured: Features, Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo and video of the day.

The Main Street Corridor Project’s schedule for this week features the start of the second of three layers of pavement from the western project limit at the Wood Street intersection to the Fire Station. Detours will continue.

Friday’s water main break on Claflin Avenue — which corresponded with Main Street Corridor Project work there — required the water to be turned off for a couple of hours, However, Water and Sewer Department manager Eric Carty said it actually proved beneficial to the town that the issue was discovered, terming the outdated iron connection a “ticking time bomb.”

Hopkinton Police Deputy Chief John Porter marked 30 years of service with the department on July 14. His name was added to the HPD 30 Years of Service Award plaque in recognition of the milestone.

A summer celebration to benefit Hopkinton-based Greyhound Friends will be held this Saturday from 4-6 p.m. at the Charles River Country Club Pavilion in Newton. The fundraising event will include hors d’oeuvres, beverages and musical entertainment by Jesse Racicot.

Town meetings tonight include the Personnel Committee (5:30) and Planning Board (7).
