Benjamin Hogan, a member of Hopkinton Middle School’s custodial staff, was arraigned in Milford District Court on one count of possession of child pornography on Monday.
In an email to the Independent, the Worcester County District Attorney’s office confirmed Hogan’s charges and arraignment. It also stated that “a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf and he was ordered held on $10,000 bail.”
News of Hogan’s arrest — but without his identification — was shared with district families on Friday by Superintendent Carol Cavanaugh.
In her email, Cavanaugh called the allegations “deeply disturbing” and explained that the school district would be cooperating fully with law enforcement.
Cavanaugh went on to note that the individual was a recent hire who passed background checks. The school district has placed him on leave.
Hogan is 42 years old and a resident of Hopedale. A search of the Hopkinton Public School’s staff directory confirmed he worked as a custodian at the middle school.
Massachusetts State Police do not believe that any Hopkinton students are involved in the charges brought against Hogan.
While the Worcester County DA declined to speak more about the case out of court, the Independent has reached out to Milford District Court for more information.
