Letter to the Editor: McSweeney for School Committee

by | May 15, 2026 | Letter to Editor

I’m writing in support of Kyla McSweeney for reelection to the Hopkinton School Committee.

As a parent and community member, I’ve appreciated Kyla’s thoughtful leadership and her willingness to make decisions that support all students and families in our district. Her support for a more inclusive school calendar that recognizes holidays like Diwali and Eid was one example of that leadership. These decisions may seem small to some, but for many families, they represent belonging, respect and the message that all children matter.

I grew up as a Muslim student in public schools, and I know firsthand how meaningful it is when schools make the effort to help students feel seen and included. Small things add up. They shape how children see themselves, how classmates learn to understand one another, and the kind of adults they grow into — people who feel confident in who they are and know how to participate in a diverse and respectful community.

Our schools are strongest when every child feels they belong. I believe that commitment is part of what makes Hopkinton Public Schools such a strong and respected district, and leaders like Kyla help keep us moving in that direction.

— Marwa Eid-Kurdi, Hopkinton
