Women’s March planned for Town Common this Saturday

by | Oct 13, 2020 | News

A Women’s March will be held at the Town Common this Saturday from 10-11:30 a.m., joining similar marches planned across the country in support of women’s rights, human rights and social justice.

State Rep. Carolyn Dykema will take part in the “strength in unity” event. According to a press release, Dykema will speak up for “eight essential principles that make up the foundation of a more equitable and just world. Those principles are civil rights, disability rights, immigrant rights, reproductive rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, worker rights, environmental justice, and ending violence.”

The March will feature music and a brief speaking program. It will celebrate the “historic legacy of the recently passed Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, as well as celebrate 100 years of progress relative to women’s rights, equality and political voice.”

The event, which coincides with the first day of early in-person voting, is billed as non-partisan and open to all, regardless of gender. Masks and social distancing are required to comply with public health guidelines. Parking is available at Center School and on the streets surrounding the Town Common.
