Fallen tree

The town released this image of the fallen tree on School Street.

A large tree fell on School Street on Friday evening, knocking down a utility pole and some wires and causing a power outage in the area, the town announced.

According to a press release, at about 6:54 p.m. emergency personnel received reports about the tree falling in the roadway. Police and fire responded and determined a transformer had been damaged, Eversource crews arrived Friday night and worked to restore power. About 100 customers in Hopkinton were said to be without power.

The town announced that it was prepared to open Hopkinton High School and the Hopkinton Senior Center as warming stations for the duration of the outage. Residents in need can call the Hopkinton Police non-emergency number, 508-497-3401, or the Fire Department non-emergency number, 508-497-2323.
