According to an obituary submitted Friday by Chesmore Funeral Home in Hopkinton, a longtime town resident died Thursday from COVID-19.
Edmund “Ned” F. Leger Sr., 93, died peacefully after a short battle with COVID-19, the obituary states.
Update: According to Health Director Shaun McAuliffe, it appears that Mr. Leger will not be factored into Hopkinton’s COVID-19 statistics, apparently because he had been staying at a rehab facility outside of town.
Hopkinton’s first COVID-19 death earlier this month also was a man in his 90s. According to the town’s latest update, which was released Thursday, there have been 71 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Hopkinton, with 17 of those individuals having recovered. There was a spike in the numbers last week when Golden Pond assisted living facility reported 37 residents had tested positive.
