This year’s Sharon Timlin Memorial Event will be held on June 14 at Hopkinton High School. The day will consist of a 5K race followed by a family fun day. A color run for kids also will be a part of the day’s festivities.
Proceeds from the 5K go to support the Angel Fund for ALS Research. The nonprofit supports research into ALS — also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease — at the UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester.
According to the Sharon Timlin Memorial Event website, the annual run has raised over $2 million to date.
The event is held in memory of Sharon Timlin, who passed away from the disease in 2002. Mike Timlin, former Red Sox relief pitcher and son of Sharon Timlin, has worked with his wife, Dawn, to continue raising awareness about ALS and money for further research. The pair will be the guests of honor at this year’s event.
Those interested in participating can sign up on the Sharon Timlin Memorial Event registration page. Runners of all abilities are eligible to sign up, but registration is capped at 1,800. Before May 29, registration is $40. It then increases to $45 after that date. All runners will receive a commemorative medal.
The race begins at 8:30 a.m. on June 14. The family fun day goes until noon and will feature live music, food, raffles and games, along with the kids’ color run.
