Voting in the Annual Town Election begins at 7 a.m. today at Hopkinton Middle School.
This year’s election features 14 offices with a total of 17 open positions. The majority of candidates are running unopposed. Uncontested races include those for Town Clerk, School Committee and Planning Board, among others.
The two contested races this year are for Select Board and Board of Assessors. Two seats are available on the Select Board with three candidates.
Select Board member Shahidul Mannan is looking to maintain his seat after a full term of service. Capital Improvement Committee chair Matt Kizner and newcomer Jeff Doyle hope to take a spot on the board as well. One of the candidates will take the vacancy of Select Board vice chair Mary Jo LaFreniere, who has opted not to run for reelection. LaFreniere retires from town government after over 40 years of service.
For the Board of Assessors, incumbent Peter Mimmo is facing off against Frederick “Ted” Mayer.
More detailed profiles on the candidates in the contested races can be found here.
All precincts vote at the middle school gym. Voting will end at 8 p.m. Those unsure of their vote registration status can check on the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ website.
