Hopkinton Today: Wednesday, March 24

by | Mar 24, 2021 |

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a video or two to brighten your morning.

At a brief meeting Tuesday night, the Select Board unanimously approved moving Annual Town Meeting back five days to Saturday, May 8, at 9 a.m. It will be held at the football field behind Hopkinton High School. Annual Town Election also will be moved back five days, to Saturday, May 22.

A five-member team from Hopkinton High School has qualified to compete in the 12th season of High School Quiz Show, a popular academic series broadcast annually by GBH2. Said team member Ruben Noroian: “I watched the show in the past years and found out we didn’t have one so I wanted to make one.” With the support of principal Evan Bishop, Noroian submitted the forms and took the steps needed to get the team up and running.

The Hopkinton High School football team will not have a sectional or state title to play for during the “Fall 2” season this spring, but the Hillers are taking on five teams from the Tri-Valley League, so a league title is on the table. And coach Dan MacLean said that is the goal his players are focused on achieving.

This week’s Police Log includes two arrests for driving under the influence and reports of a deer in the road, an injured owl and a lost dog.

The latest edition of Senior Snippets includes information on programs including a talk on how to sleep better, a discussion about managing memory and a lecture about raptors.

Town meetings tonight include the Board of Appeals (7) and Growth Study Committee (7).
