Hopkinton Today: Wednesday, Sept. 28

by | Sep 28, 2022 | Featured: Features, Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo and video of the day.

Town Clerk Connor Degan said he has been “swarmed” with requests for information — sometimes including data that doesn’t exist or can’t legally be shared — and threats of legal action as 2020 election conspiracy theorists take their battle to local towns. “The intention obviously is to harass election officials to prevent them from doing their duties,” Degan said. “It’s a concentrated effort to try to see if they can inundate election offices and harass election officials, unfortunately.”

The Hopkinton High School field hockey team has a simple motto this season: “Win the day.” The Hillers are playing under first-year coach Ally Valencia and are razor-focused on trying to improve and succeed each day, whether it’s during a game, in practice or while training.

As part of the town’s work on developing a plan for a potential replacement for Elmwood School, there will be a second community forum on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the Hopkinton High School auditorium. The meeting was rescheduled from Oct. 4.

Alltown Fresh, the newly opened market and gas station at 92 West Main Street, will host a commemoration ceremony this Friday at 1 p.m. to honor Hopkinton’s “historic founding families” who owned the property at Claflinville Four Corners, the area where Alltown is located.

The next monthly trail volunteer day is this Saturday. Participants will meet at the Emerald Hill soccer field parking lot on Greenwood Road and work on the Greenwood Trail. Depending upon the size of the crew, there might be some work done on the Betty Fitzpatrick Trail as well.

Town meetings tonight include the Parks & Recreation Commission (5:30) and Board of Appeals (7).

Photo of the Day: The Town Common hosted a free sunset yoga class on Tuesday evening. The event was coordinated by Hopkinton Youth & Family Services and was part of Suicide Prevention Month.
