ALL AGES PROGRAMS
Understanding AI and Misinformation
Wednesday, July 15, 11 a.m.-noon
Journalist Philip Eil will lead this presentation about artificial intelligence (AI) and its impacts on the modern information ecosystem. The conversation will lead attendees through the role AI plays in creating and spreading misinformation, applicable laws and regulations against the use of AI and how to spot AI-generated content.
Movie Screening: ‘Hamilton’
Thursday, July 16, 3:30-7:30 p.m.
The library will hold a screening of the hit Broadway musical “Hamilton” as part of its ongoing celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary. The film is rated PG-13, and there will be a break between the two acts. The license to show the film was funded by the Hopkinton Public Library Foundation.
Coffee House: Songs of Tradition, Sung Anew
Saturday, July 18, 2:30-3:30 p.m.
Maitreyee Chakraborty will lead members of Tagore, Me and You in an afternoon of curated vocal performances of Tagore songs alongside select classical pieces. Vocal renditions will be accompanied by tabla and harmonium. Translations of all lyrics will be projected on screen. This program is funded by the Hopkinton Public Library Foundation.
Acrobatic Performance with Li Liu
Saturday, July 25, 2-2:45 p.m.
Li Liu will give a solo performance titled “Traditions of Chinese Acrobatics.” Her act includes feats such as hand balancing, plate spinning, ribbon dancing, diabolos and foot juggling. A limited number of volunteers will join the performer on stage to participate. Liu will discuss Chinese New Year rituals, teach some basic Chinese phrases and encourage audience members to think about what it might have been like to grow up in a different time and place. This program is funded by the Friends of the Hopkinton Public Library.
CHILDREN’S/YOUNG ADULT PROGRAMS
Mario Kart Tournament
Wednesday, July 8, 1-4 p.m.
One Up Games will host a Mario Kart tournament for anyone entering Grades 5-9. Registration is required, as space is limited.
Whalemobile
Tuesday, July 21, 2-4:30 p.m.
The Whalemobile team will bring Nile, a life-sized inflatable whale, to visit the Hopkinton Public Library. Children can explore inside the whale to learn more about these animals and lessons about the environment. This program is recommended for children in Grades 1-6 and is not a drop-off event. Children under the age of 9 must be accompanied at all times by a responsible person age 12 or older while visiting the library. This is not a program for children under 5, but they are welcome to watch from the outside. Space is limited and registration is required. This program is funded by the Friends of the Hopkinton Public Library
SCHEDULE UPDATES
