Schools Notebook: HHS students shine at HOSA conference

The Massachusetts Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) State Leadership Conference was held April 10, and a number of Hopkinton High School students participated in competitions there.

The following students qualified to compete at the International HOSA Leadership Conference in June:

Odundo Omondi (second place, Clinical Specialty), Omondi, Nandita Ramesh, Roma Tewari (first, Health Education), Prachi Meher (second, Medical Math), Noor Rana, Srilakshmi Venkatesan, Prisha Shrivastava (first, Public Health), Marina Youssef, Avery Hutchinson, Vania Gautam (first, Public Service Announcement) and Simran Kaur (first, Prepared Speaking).

HHS, HMS robotics teams advance to worlds

Five Hopkinton High School Hopkinetics teams (A, E, F, G and H) qualified for the VEX Robotics World Championship. Team A won the Southern New England Excellence Award.

Meanwhile, three Hopkinton Middle School RoboHillers teams qualified for the VEX Robotics World Championship: Team 1715T Titans, Team 1515S StrikeForce and Team 1715Y RoboChickens. …

HHS student Kevin Gu was named winner of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Voice of Democracy competition for Massachusetts. Gu was awarded a $1,000 scholarship for his accomplishment. …

HHS sophomore Owen Fitzpatrick took first place in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Sportsmanship Essay Contest. …

The HHS team that competed in Season 12 of GBH’s High School Quiz Show lost in the qualifying round to defending champion Boston Latin by a score of 1,165 to 715. The Hillers were making their first appearance on the program since Season 4.
