Pre-construction meeting held for Main Street Corridor Project

by | Jan 8, 2021 | News

The town announced Friday that a pre-construction meeting for the Main Street Corridor Project was held Thursday, bring together representatives from town departments, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), contractor A.F. Amorello & Sons, Inc., public outreach firm City Point Partners, town engineering consultant VHB, and utility companies.

Via press release, the town summed up the meeting as follows:

“MassDOT announced during the meeting that [its] survey crew is scheduled to be back onsite, weather permitting, starting on Tuesday, January 19th. They are scheduled to complete the right-of-way survey and start laying out project easements. The survey of the easements will require MassDOT survey personnel to work on private property.

“Project Manager Tobias Pawlak-Silva, of A.F. Amorello & Sons, Inc. presented a preliminary construction schedule showing a construction crew starting work on the east side of the project (Ash Street to Route 85 intersection). The work will commence as early as weather permits, which could possibly be as early as March. The schedule also showed a second crew starting on the west side of the project (Wood Street to Route 85 intersection) shortly after the first crew started.

“Announcing the start of the construction for this project is a long awaited milestone,” said Town Manager Norman Khumalo. “We can now look forward to realizing the many benefits that will result from its completion.

“Also discussed at the meeting was the importance of the public outreach plan. Maintaining effective, two-way communication with stakeholders and abutters is an important goal of this project and will be achieved through continued and consistent community engagement. Public outreach for the project will be a coordinated effort between the town, VHB, MassDOT, the contractor, and the public outreach firm, City Point Partners, and will include a dedicated Main Street Corridor Project website which will be updated on a weekly basis. A future press release will announce the formal launch of the project website.”
