Town Democratic and Republican town committees to caucus this month

by | Feb 13, 2022 | News

The town’s Democratic and Republican town committees will meet this month to elect delegates to the state conventions.

The Hopkinton Republican Town Committee will meet Thursday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Parish Center of St. John the Evangelist Church (20 Church Street). The snow date is the following day.

The Republican State Convention is May 22 in Springfield.

Anyone who was registered as a Hopkinton Republican voter as of Dec. 31, 2021, is eligible to be a delegate. The delegate selection will be by full members of the Hopkinton Republican Town Committee who are present at the caucus. Candidates do not need to attend the caucus to be selected as a delegate.

Anyone interested in being nominated as a delegate can reach out to HRTC Chair Ken Weismantel at ken@weismantel.com or attend the caucus.

The Hopkinton Democratic Town Committee will convene virtually on Saturday, Feb. 26, at 9 a.m. to choose delegates for the Democratic State Convention, which is June 3-4 at the DCU Center in Worcester (with some virtual participation options). The HDTC will elect nine delegates and four alternates. Attendees may participate remotely by registering in advance at bit.ly/HopCaucus.

Registered and preregistered Democrats in Hopkinton 16 years old by Feb. 4, 2022, may vote and be elected as delegates or alternates. Youth (age 16-35), people with disabilities, people of color and members of the LGBTQ+ community not elected as delegates or alternates are encouraged to apply to be add-on delegates at the caucus or by visiting massdems.org/convention.

Those interested in getting involved with the HDTC should contact Darlene Hayes at chair@hopkintondemocrats.org or 508-435-6585.
