Town officials on Thursday announced that the Main Street public parking project has been completed, and the 53 new parking spaces are immediately available.

The necessary legal processes, which allowed the town to officially close on the property, were completed Wednesday, the town stated in a press release. The builder has also completed the final work to open the lots.

“It is a pleasure to announce that the Main Street public parking project has come to a successful conclusion,” said Town Manager Norman Khumalo. “It is our hope that with the addition of these public parking spaces, we can welcome more people to visit Hopkinton and support our local businesses.”

The new parking spaces are split between two lots, with the larger lot holding 29 spaces and the smaller lot holding 13. The larger parking lot will be available for public use 24/7 and the smaller parking lot will be available for public use between 6 p.m. and midnight.

An additional five spaces are located along the entrance driveway and six spaces along the exit driveway. These spaces are also available for public use between the hours of 6 p.m. and midnight.

The one-way entrance to the lot is located between Muffin House Cafe and 35 Main Street. The exit is adjacent to 25 Main Street.

Electric vehicle charging stations are to be installed in the lots in the near future.

Voters approved the acquisition during the 2019 Annual Town Meeting. The property was purchased from LFJ Development.

Wonderful news! Make sure to install a large P for Public Parking sign at the entrance! So many towns do not have large enough signs for out-of-towners to find easily.
