The upper and main beaches at Hopkinton State Park have been closed after being deemed unsafe for swimming by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) due to high bacteria counts (enterococci) measured on Tuesday.
Two weeks ago, the upper beach was closed for the same reason.
The beaches will be tested daily to determine when it is safe to re-enter.

Apparently the lack of managing the ever increasing Canadian Goose population at the park is the main reason for bacteria. Their droppings have made the park practically unwalkable. Every surface is fouled with Goose droppings. It’s a shame that DCR upper management has done nothing to alleviate this situation other than providing frustrated park personnel with fake coyote statues…DCR senior management needs to step up, reduce the goose population and return the park to humans to enjoy. For many inner city families, this is their only access to a natural green space. No one wants to sit in sand contaminated by goose feces.
I was very disappointed when I went today. Forgot the fake coyote, use real dogs. The harass the geese and it works.
