Hopkinton Little League’s fall baseball program will wrap up Friday with its second annual Halloween games at Carrigan Park. According to HLL board member Mike Lyons, the point of the event is to be “fun and goofy.”
“It’s a silly way to get the kids involved and keep the spirit of the game,” he said.
Last year’s game featured the players taking the field in Halloween costumes. “The kids absolutely loved it,” said Lyons. “We had music going, pizza being served. … It was a really fun way to end the season and really the last game of the year.”
For this year, the league plans to keep the basic aspects of the event but try to offer more to keep the experience fun, said Lyons. He mentioned there would be candy stations at first base and third. As well, organizers were throwing around other ideas like spinning a wheel when each player gets up to bat.
There will be two games on Friday at Carrigan Park. The 11U team will take the field at 5 p.m., and the 12U team will follow at 7:15 p.m. The games also are being sponsored this year by EARNED, a company run by Lyons’ sons, who play in the league. He noted in an email that the boys will be providing pizza from BoMain and distributing things like candy and batting helmet stickers.
