Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo and video of the day.
Shahidul Mannan was the top vote-getter for Select Board in Monday’s Town Election, while incumbent Mary Jo LaFreniere finished second and will retain her seat. The other most-discussed races were for the three School Committee seats, and the candidates who pushed for the earlier removal of face coverings during the pandemic all came up on the losing end.
The Town of Hopkinton is “strongly recommending” residents wear face coverings indoors in order to prevent further spread of COVID-19. The town is in the midst of a “recent uptick,” with the local schools especially being affected. The advisory is for when individuals are indoors and not in their own home.
Hopkinton High School girls track and field coach Jean Cann describes the spring season as a “step up” from where the program was during the indoor season, but she is holding the program to its high bar of never losing a meet.
After a canceled spring track and field season and another one significantly impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Hopkinton High School boys coach Brian Prescott is enjoying being back in the midst of the chaos that comes with leading a 130-athlete team.
Hopkinton 101, where residents and locals can learn about municipal departments as well as local nonprofit and volunteer opportunities, was held Saturday at the Town Common, and we have photos.
Among the events featured in this week’s Senior Snippets is the Friends of Hopkinton Seniors Plant and Book Sale, which will be held this Friday and Saturday.
Town meetings tonight include the Planning Board (5:30) and Select Board (6).
