Letter to the Editor: Markey has ‘passion for education’

by | Jun 16, 2020 | Letter to Editor

I am writing to endorse Joe Markey as a candidate for the School Committee.

I have known Joe for several years now, as a colleague at Dell EMC, as a friendly neighbor and as a tireless advocate for promoting education and the town’s well-being as chairperson of the Hopkinton Elementary School Building Committee.

I admire Joe’s passion for education and voice on important town matters. He is very thorough in his research, thoughtful in his opinion and immensely articulate in clarifying his view.

When I participated in hearings on the new school proposal as a member of the Appropriations Committee, I asked Joe about many critical aspects of finance and budget as well as technical evaluations of the new school proposal to stress test it and make sure it serves the purpose. I always found him extremely well prepared, clear in his vision about the school’s issues and prospects, and knowledgeable in technical matters.

I am truly happy that a qualified candidate like Joe is dedicated to signing up to serve as a member of our School Committee. Our schools need Joe’s leadership to face the challenges ahead. I am happy to endorse him and strongly support his candidacy.

— Shahidul Mannan, Hopkinton
